However, with the first batch of new energy vehicles on the road for five years, China has also ushered in the “small peak” of power battery decommissioning, and its recycling and reuse has become a thorny issue for the new energy vehicle industry.

According to reports, China began to pilot new energy vehicle subsidy policy in 2010, and comprehensively promoted new energy vehicles in 2016. The general power battery will be retired after 5 to 6 years. This means that starting from 2018, China will have a large number of power batteries into the retirement period. It is estimated that by 2020, the cumulative amount of batteries in China will reach 120,000 to 170,000 tons. "Compared with the lead-acid batteries in the past, the copper, cobalt, lithium and other metals in the lithium batteries commonly used now have higher economic value. Under the regulation of the market mechanism, the used power batteries will be favored by the recycling enterprises. "The technical staff of a new energy vehicle company said. The industry believes that new energy vehicle batteries are still valuable after they are decommissioned, and their recycling methods are mainly cascade utilization and resource recycling.

However, at present, the overall recycling network system of power batteries is still not perfect. Whether it is cascade utilization or recycling, the scale has not yet been formed, and the technology is still to be upgraded. It is understood that there are only a few third-party recycling companies in China that have built their own recycling networks. The power battery recycling system coordinated by car companies, battery companies, recycling companies and logistics companies is far from established.

“The key technologies for the decommissioning of power batteries are not mature enough. Some battery recycling companies still use manual dismantling or traditional recycling processes.” Zhang Changling, senior engineer of China Automotive Technology and Research Center, said that 1 ton of waste iron phosphate is recycled by traditional process. However, some details still plague the relevant companies, and the industry has called for more detailed and detailed standards. Some experts said that it is imperative to solve the problem of battery traceability as soon as possible, and use the new energy vehicle supervision platform to establish a battery traceability mechanism, so that the whole process of battery from "life" to "death" can be traced.
