The China Association of Automobile Manufacturers announced in January the nationwide production and sales in January. Figures show that domestic vehicle sales fell by 14.35% year-on-year in January. Among them, commercial vehicles dropped by 36.46% year-on-year, which was a general downturn.
According to Zhu Yiping, secretary-general of SAIC assisting general manager, the domestic automobile production in January was 658,800 units, which was a 5.07% increase from the previous period and a year-on-year decrease of 20.22%; the sales volume was 735,500 units, which was a decrease of 0.83% and 14.35% year-on-year. Zhu Yiping stressed that the production and sales of commercial vehicles are very severe, with production and sales of only 132,000 and 125,100 vehicles, a year-on-year decrease of 39.10% and 36.46%.
According to statistics, sedan production rose in January from the previous month, but sales fell 2.93%. If compared with January last year, the sales of cars dropped by 12.35%. GAC and Brilliance have grown slightly, while other companies have declined, with FAW dropping the most.
Li Jingsheng, head of the China Automobile Information Institute, said that in January this year, the automobile industry received unprecedented attention and support, and various supporting measures were gradually introduced. However, due to slowing market demand and more holidays in January, car sales are still not satisfactory.
