The reporter learned that for the China IV emission standard that will be implemented in a few years, the world's largest independent diesel engine manufacturer has completed its product layout in China and is waiting for the competition to “open upâ€.

The reputation of Cummins in the country was originally created by the B and C series engines produced by the joint venture Dongfeng Cummins. Since then, Cummins has successively established joint ventures with Shaanxi Automobile Group and Foton Motor to produce heavy-duty diesel engines and light-duty diesel engines.
In this session of the internal combustion engine exhibition, Cummins Corporation exhibited seven diesel engines that meet the national IV emissions, with displacements ranging from 2.8L to 13L. These 7 diesel engines are all manufactured by their joint ventures, which further enhances the price/performance ratio of the products.
Among them, the ISM series 11L heavy-duty diesel engine produced by Xi'an Cummins, a joint venture between Cummins and Shaanxi Automobile Group, has a power output of 226 to 323kW, meeting the national IV and EU IV emission regulations, and can be easily upgraded to Euro V. This engine will be launched next year, when the localization rate will reach 80%, Cummins will be positioned as "China's truck companies to break through the environmental protection barriers in Europe and the United States market, toward the high-end international market, the 'dynamic pass'."
Cummins FC and Foton Cummins, a joint venture company of Beiqi Foton, demonstrated the ISF series' two 2.8L and 3.8L diesel engines. These two engines are Cummins products designed for China and Europe in China. It aims at markets such as light trucks, pickup trucks, SUVs and MPVs. It is expected to start production in 2009.
Dongfeng Cummins demonstrated the B and C series engines that were put into production earlier and the ISZ series 13L heavy engines that are expected to be put into production next year. Cummins hopes to respond to the strong growth of the domestic high-end heavy truck market in the coming years with this ISZ series engine.
â– The East Asia R&D Center enables Cummins to meet demand faster
Although the product layout has been completed, compared to Cummins's greatest competitive advantage is not the localization of its products, but the localization of its R&D.
“Cummins has exhibited a full range of national IV engines and key components for local production at this internal combustion engine exhibition. The development of these new products was led by Cummins' East Asia Center in Wuhan, which showed that Cummins’s local R&D construction has achieved Fruitful results," Wang Hongjie, vice chairman of the board of the Cummins (China) Investment Co., Ltd. and general manager of the engine division, told reporters.
The "East Asia Center" referred to by Wang Hongjie refers to the Cummins East Asia Research and Development Center jointly established by Cummins and Dongfeng Motor Company in 2006. The center currently has 9 engine test benches and a large number of advanced test and development platforms including pilot centers, control laboratories, applied mechanics and materials science laboratories, and more than 100 R&D engineers. According to the plan, after the center is finally completed, it will become Cummins' second largest R&D institution in the world, second only to the U.S. headquarters technical center.
In the past two years, the East Asia Center led the development of diesel engines on three different platforms: ISM, ISF and ISZ. The ISF and ISZ engines designed for the Chinese market can be quickly finalized, which is closely related to the R&D strategy of the center close to the Chinese market.
