Yokohama Rubber has announced that it plans to spend US$300 million to build a new factory in the United States and start production of truck and passenger tires. The new plant's production capacity is expected to reach 1 million pieces/year.
The new plant is located in West Point, Mississippi, USA. According to Yokohama Rubber's plan, the new plant will begin construction in September this year and is expected to be operational in October 2015.
Yokohama Rubber has been operating its tire business in the North American market through its US subsidiary GTY Tyre and exporting from Japan and Thailand to the North American market. Yokohama Rubber decided to build a new factory in the United States due to the increasing demand in the local market.
