The idea of ​​rechargeable lithium-carbon dioxide cells burst out of an experiment three years ago, led by Dr. Su Liwei, a member of the research group (who graduated in 2013), found that lithium carbonate batteries do have unusually high lithium storage capacity and produce carbon dioxide during the reaction bubble. Since then, Zhang Zhang, a Ph.D. student, has started to set up a research platform for lithium-oxygen batteries. After repeated experiments by team members and continuous improvement of electrode performance, graphene was first used as an air electrode for lithium-carbon dioxide batteries and exhibited excellent performance.
