US fasteners import and export growth profile in the first half

According to statistics from the International Fasteners Institute (IFI), from January to June 2011, US fastener imports were 2.09 billion U.S. dollars, up 29.9% year-on-year, about the same as expected; imports were 1.43 billion pounds. The year-on-year increase was 23.7%.

In the first half of the year, the amount of fastener exports from the United States also increased. Exports amounted to US$1.44 billion, a year-on-year increase of 16.9%. However, there was a sharp decline in exports, with 793 million pounds of exports, down 30.4% year-on-year.

The IFI pointed out that the reason why the total number of fastener exports in the United States fell during the first half of the year was mainly because the amount of fasteners exported to Canada fell by 40.2%, although the export amount increased by 12.9% year-on-year.

"If we do not include Canada, the United States exports of fasteners will increase by 22% year-on-year."
